Time flies! Ten years ago we at the Wildau Institute of Technology have started a new program designed to combine broad aviation knowledge and profound management skills. More than 100 students and alumni have been studying with us since 2007. These men and women come from almost 20 countries and represent various aviation sectors. The international character of our network gives aviation managers of tomorrow a chance to benefit from the know-how of their fellow students and alumni and to broad their contacts all over the globe.
Since the first intake of the program it was the major goal for our institute to provide the students with a deep understanding of the entire value-chain in the field of aviation. In order to manage the complexities one needs to comprehend processes and interdependencies. It is therefore not surprising that many of our graduates work at the interface between two or more aviation sectors. It is good to see that more and more former WIT students work in managerial positions and come back to Wildau as experts or lecturers.
On October 9, our alumni, lecturers and friends had a chance to look back at the ten years of Aviation Management. Together with our brand new students we have celebrated this special day. More than 40 persons participated in the celebration that included keynote speeches, a slideshow, food and drinks.
Renowned experts Prof. Dr. Elmar Giemulla from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Prof. Dr. Andreas Timmermann from the Berlin-Brandenburg Aerospace Alliance used their keynote speeches to look back at the development of the program. Both of them have been following and supporting the Aviation Management program for years. Professor Giemulla has emphasized the unique mix of skills that Aviation Management students learn at the WIT. Professor Timmermann pointed out the importance of Wildau and the region for the aviation industry in Germany and underlined the opportunities that WIT students can benefit from.
Both the aviation industry and the international post-graduate education are in the state of flux. For the Wildau Institute of Technology and the Aviation Management program it means that we can expect both chances and challenges. At the Aviation Management birthday celebration however there was no doubt that there are many reasons for being optimistic about the future. We are looking forward to many exciting years.
