Master of Science in Library Computer Sciences

Why study Library Computer Sciences?

Libraries in a state of flux

Libraries as temples of knowledge are in the state of flux, due to dynamic processes of digitalization. New methods of acquiring knowledge are evolving in the course of technological development. These processes change the functions and tasks of libraries as well as the job profiles of library and information facilities’ employers. Therefore, there is clearly a job market niche at the interface between IT specialists, technical librarians and employers of system libraries. The two-year part-time Master programme in Library Computer Sciences (Bibliotheksinformatik) aims at closing this gap. Based on library experience (a requirement for admission), the study programme will provide you with a comprehensive set of skills that will enable you to take the lead in implementing IT projects in your library or information facility. The programme curriculum provides an in-depth understanding of hardware and software, web-based solutions, interfaces and a basic practical knowledge in programming.

Please note that our Library Computer Sciences (Bibliotheksinformatik) programme is offered in German only. For more information about the study programme, please visit the German page.
